The Marc Aviles Emerging Talent 2009 Photo Competition
A San Juan National High School Alumni Association Inc (SJNHSAAI) Project
MISSION:
The Marc Aviles Emerging Talent 2009 Photography Competition is a project of San Juan National High School Alumni Association Inc (SJNHSAAI). Its mission is to encourage the Students and Alumni to pique their interest in the vast fields of arts and photography. Through this friendly competition, the project aims to jumpstart and develop their hidden talents.
BACKGROUND:
Photography was one of the topics taught by Mr. Estanislao Caldez, a professor of Practical Arts, when Marc Aviles studied at San Juan National High School, in the year 1987. He enjoyed the subject because it was fun and creative, and it was 16 years later when he first got his first camera and studied photography again on his own. He started joining photography competitions which helped him exercise his imagination and push his passion. In 2004, he won the “Photographer of the Year" title in Singapore’s leading photography (Photo-i) magazine, 2005 and 2007 Top Ten Photographer of the Year in Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation. In 2007, he won the “Photographer of the Year”, a worldwide competition held by New York's Popular Photography Magazine. In 2008, he bagged the 1st and 2nd Place for the Landscape/Nature category in the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International), judging was held in Santa Monica, California. Now he lives as a professional photographer in California.
With humble beginnings, Marc Aviles looks back at the time when he first held a camera provided by SJNHS, and thanks the school for planting a seed of inspiration to him.
"With the help of my fellow alumni at SJNHSAAI, I hope to excite the youth about arts and photography. I believe this humble competition at our beloved alma matter will spark up their interest."
