Chobi Mela V: International Festival of Photography, 2008

Chobi Mela V will be launched on the 6th November 2008. The theme of the festival is “Freedom”. Photo practitioners are invited to submit work on the theme, and encouraged to explore the boundaries of their medium.

Last date for submissions is 31 May 2008. Participants will be notified by email on 21 June 2008. Participants will be able to continue working, but will need to submit prints or camera ready artwork or high resolution digital files suitable for printing, by 21 July 2008.

Apart from the group exhibitions where work from a number of countries will be included, collective works from other countries are also welcome, some work has already been commissioned for the festival. Photographers, whether they be fine artists, documentary photographers, or from any other field of photography can participate individually or in groups. Non-photographic work that has a direct relevance to the theme of the festival may also be acceptable.

Chobi Mela retains the right to publish photographs and text from shows selected for exhibit in promotional material relating to the festival. Such content will not be used in any other form, unless specifically authorized by the artist as in the case of the calendar.

Chobi Mela does not sponsor shows and no fees are paid to artists. However for work that is selected, Chobi Mela will organize gallery space and an opening reception. Chobi Mela will also publish a catalogue and poster for the entire festival which will feature all participating artists. It will also organize advertising in print and electronic media. Selected exhibitions will be toured internationally. Through our partnership with the global television channel Ujala, Chobi Mela will receive extensive coverage worldwide. The presence of local media partners also ensure extensive coverage in local media.
Guidelines

Following are guidelines for submission:

You can apply online and also through post. Your application through post, must be accompanied by:
  1. A filled registration form.
  2. Brief profile of the artist.
  3. A short cover letter/artist’s statement explaining how the submission relates to the theme.
  4. Visual support material which may include 6-8 prints (7 inch or 18 cm on the longer side) clearly identified and accompanied by a descriptive image list.
OR a clearly identified CDROM readable by MAC and PC with a maximum of 8 images in JPG (600 pixels on the longer side) in RGB colour mode.

OR PDF files (2 MB max)

OR a preview video in VHS (PAL) or CD/DVD in Quicktime, or Windows Media Player format (Maximum 5 minutes).

Image information should include title, date, caption details, copyright and credit information etc. All text documents sent in digital format (on a CD/DVDROM) should be in Word or PDF format. Please note that original works, such as exhibition prints, cannot be reviewed as part of this process and will not be accepted on delivery.

Submissions will not be returned. Please do not send original or irreplaceable material.
